Connecting to Aimnet with Aimnet Ranger Please use the following information to install and configure Aimnet Ranger on your personal computer. Your username and password were faxed or given to you when you registered with Aimnet. Aimnet's access numbers are included with this document. If you have already installed some other type of Internet software onto your system, go to the Windows directory and delete the "TCP/IP session" from the win.ini file, and delete any winsock.dll files in the directory as well. With Windows 95, Aimnet Ranger takes full advantage of the built-in TCP/IP stacks for your modem or network connections. Installation for Windows 3.1 ****************************************************** 1. Put the Aimnet Ranger diskette in the A: or B: drive. 2. In the Program Manger, click on File/Run. 3. Type a:\setup (or b:\setup.) Click OK. 4. After Ranger has installed itself, click on the Custom icon in the Ranger program group. 5. Click on the Setup option of the File menu bar and pull it down until you reach the Login option. 6. Enter your username. 7. Enter your password. 8. Click OK. 9. Exit the Custom program and click on the Ranger icon. Note: you are still not connected. Installation for Windows 95 ****************************************************** Please follow the Setting up Windows 95 for Aimnet page before installing Aimnet Ranger. 1. Put the Aimnet Ranger diskette in the A: or B: drive. 2. Click on the My Computer icon on the desktop. 3. Click on the a: or b: drive icon. 4. Click on the Setup icon. Preparing to connect to Aimnet ****************************************************** **Hosts Configuration Aimnet Ranger is pre-configured with aimnet.com set as the default host. To add other hosts: 1. Click on the New button. The New Host windows appears. 2. Enter the full host name. 3. Enter the correct IP address for the new host. 4. Enter an "alias" for it. 5. Click OK. **Mail Configuration 1. Click on the Mail Configuration icon. 2. Click on New User. 3. Enter your username. 4. Enter your password. 5. Choose the appropriate mail server. 6. Click OK. 7. In the User dialog box, enter the username, the password, and the Mail Server. For connecting to Aimnet, this information will be filled in for you. All you need to enter is your username and password. NOTE: for security, the password never displays on the screen. Instead, asterisks appear. 8. In the User dialog box, click on OK. The dialog box closes. 9. Click on OK to exit the Mail Configuration window. **FTP Configuration 1. Click on the FTP Configuration icon. 2. Enter your username. 3. Enter your complete e-mail address. This is usually username@aimnet.com 4. Click on OK. 5. Telnet Configuration 6. Click on the Telnet Configuration icon. 7. Enter the complete hostname that will be set as the default host name. 8. Click on OK. **Browser Configuration Aimnet Ranger allows you to configure your favorite WWW browser to it. 1. Click on the WWW Browser Configuration icon. 2. Type in the full path name of where your browser is located on your hard drive. 3. Click on OK **Newsreader Configuration Aimnet Ranger is pre-configured to connect to the Aimnet mail and news servers. To change these: 1. Enter the correct name for the newserver at the remote host. 2. Click on the Tab key. 3. Enter the correct name for the mailserver at the remote host. 4. Click on OK. Connecting with Aimnet Ranger****************************************************** Windows 3.1 1. Click on the Custom icon. 2. Click on the File option on the menu bar and drag it down to open. 3. Choose aimnet.cfg from the menu. 4. Choose the appropriate Aimnet dial-up number for your calling area from the window at the bottom of the screen. 5. Click on the Connect option of the file menu bar. 6. Once connected, NEWT should appear at the bottom of your screen, then minimize the window. 7. Click on the Ranger icon. 8. Click on any application icon to begin working with it. Windows 95****************************************************** Click on the appropriate Dial-up Networking connection icon in the networking folder and connect to Aimnet. Once connected, click on the Ranger icon in the Ranger window. Once connected, minimize the dial-up connection window. 1. Click on the Ranger icon. 2. Click on any application icon to begin working with it.
